Clutches

Clutch-associated areas

When replacing the clutch, the clutch-associated areas should also be carefully inspected and, if necessary, the components changed to prevent problems occurring in the future. Fault-free clutch cables, pilot bearings and guiding sleeves are important prerequisites for ensuring that the clutch functions with no problems. This reduces the number of trips to the workshop and achieves a higher level of customer satisfaction. All components can be purchased from LuK Aftermarket Service.

Clutch cable
The clutch cable enables mechanical power transmission between pedal and release bearing. Faults can usually only be recognised when under stress and correct testing is not possible in the workshop. The clutch cable should therefore be changed as a precautionary measure when the clutch is replaced.

Pilot bearings
The pilot bearing supports the clutch shaft. A worn bearing is slack and allows the shaft to move. This causes grabbing in the clutch, resulting in increased wear and even complete failure.

Guiding sleeve
The guiding sleeve has an extremely large influence on the release procedure. Worn guiding sleeves demonstrate the following clear symptoms: slow clutch linkage, stagnant pedal paths and noise.

High performance grease
Special temperature resistant, highly-adhesive grease, which is free from particulate matter must be used for lubricating the hub and guiding sleeve.
